GenNet Online Learning  Grades K-12
GenNET Online Learning is a service offered by Genesee Intermediate School District for students throughout the State of Michigan to provide a wide range of teacher-led courses and self-directed classroom tools delivered over the Internet.
 
Michigan Virtual School  Grades 6-12
Michigan Virtual School gives nonpublic schools and home school families the opportunity to have students take middle and high school courses online and access a robust online career development tool.
 
Regional Educational Media Center (REMC)
Regional Educational Media Center (REMC) provides a service that is available to nonpublic and home school students. The REMCs work cooperatively with one or more intermediate school districts for the improvement of instruction in Michigan’s elementary and secondary schools.

The Learning Network

Grades 6-12. Lesson Plans and Teaching Resources.

 

The Learning Network publishes about 1,000 teaching resources each school year, all based on using Times content — articles, essays, images, videos, graphics and podcasts — as teaching tools across subject areas.

Their intended audience is middle and high school teachers and students (teenagers 13 and up). That said, they know that our content is used in elementary schools and colleges as well, and much of it is appropriate for both. Most of their resources are free (only our lesson plans are limited to five per month for nonsubscribers).

 

Wide Open School 

Grades Pre K - 12.

 

Wide Open School is a free collection of the best online learning experiences for kids curated by the editors at Common Sense. There is so much good happening, and we are here to gather great stuff and organize it so teachers and families can easily find it and plan each day.

 

Khan Academy

Grades K-12.  Online Learning.

Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computing, history, art history, economics, and more, including K-14 and test preparation (SAT, Praxis, LSAT) content. We focus on skill mastery to help learners establish strong foundations, so there's no limit to what they can learn next!

Common Lit

Grades 3-12. Articles and ebooks.

CommonLit operates a free online reading program  for 3rd-12th grade classrooms. CommonLit is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that all students,particularly low-income students, graduate high school with the reading, writing,critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills necessary to succeed in college and career.

 

National Emergency Library

All Ages. ebooks.

 

The National Emergency Library is a collection of books that supports emergency remote teaching, research activities, independent scholarship, and intellectual stimulation while universities, schools, training centers, and libraries are closed. This library was created by the Internet Archive, and has a large collection of text from popular novels to historical texts.  You will need to create an account to get a virtual library card.

 

TumbleBook Library

Grades K-6.  Stories, Online Games, and Videos.

 

TumbleBooks are animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sound, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you. TBL also includes National Geographic videos and games.

 

Teen Book Cloud

Grades 7-12.  Stories, AP English, Audio Books, Quizes, Videos and Lesson Plans.

TeenBookCloud is an online database of eBooks and educator resources perfect for middle school and high school. They offer a robust selection of Graphic Novels, Enhanced Novels, eBooks, classic literature, National Geographic videos, educator resources, and audiobooks.

Hoopla

All Ages. eBooks, Audiobooks, Movies, and Music.

 

Hoopla is a digital library full of graphic novels, audio books, and eBooks. You can check out 5 items a month on Hoopla, so make sure you are using all 5 of your check outs! You will need to use your library card to sign up and create a username.

Libby (Overdrive) 

All Ages. eBooks and Audiobooks.

 

Libby is a digital library full of audio books and eBooks. You can have 5 books checked out at a time. Many titles are available immediately online, download them for offline use, or send borrowed ebooks to a Kindle device.  You will need to use your library card to sign up.

Rbdigital

All Ages. Online Magazines.

 

RB Digital lets you read digital versions of your favorite magazines and listen to audio books online. To sign up you will need to use the internet and your library card to create an account, then you can browse online or download the app to your phone or tablet. You can filter the magazines by age and subject (Children's, History, Education, or Teen) in the search filter when you filter by genre.

History and Social Studies
Bunk History
Grades 5-12. History and Current events
Bunk looks at what is happening today and ties it to the past. Bunk sets out to capture passion for the past surging all around us, and to reveal the ways that people of different backgrounds and purposes are connecting with the nation’s history. The currators at  Bunk search the internet for the most interesting articles, maps, videos, conversations, visualizations, and podcasts about history they can find. By highlighting some of the many points of connection between these overlapping stories and interpretations, there hope is to create a fuller and more honest portrayal of our shared past, and reveal the extent to which every representation is part of a longer conversation.
 
Classroom Cereal
Grades 5-10. Reading, Writing and Grammar.
Created by a 6th Grade Language Arts teacher, Classroom Cereal stories help students practice fundamentals of grammar, like spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. Classroom Cereal provides serialized stories which contain common writing errors for the students to hunt for and correct. Routinely identifying and correcting grammatical mistakes while reading can help students avoid such mistakes while writing.
English and Language Arts
Quill.org
Grades 3-12. Writing and Grammar.
Quill has activities to help students develop their sentence construction and grammar skills and are designed as supplemental writing exercises that students complete over short, 10 to 15 minute sessions. Quill offers prompts and exercises and delivers instant feedback to help students write, revise, and revise again until they are able to produce succinct, powerful sentences.
 
Reading Rockets
Grades Prek - 4.  Videos, Activities, and Printables.
Reading Rockets is a national public media literacy initiative offering information and resources on how young kids learn to read, why so many struggle, and how caring adults can help. Bring the best research-based strategies to teachers, parents, administrators, librarians, childcare providers, and anyone else involved in helping a young child become a strong, confident reader. Their goal is to bring the reading research to life — to spread the word about reading instruction and to present "what works" in a way that parents and educators can understand and use.

Bedtime Math
Grades K-5. Math Activities, Games, and Lessons.
Bedtime Math makes math part of the family routine. Every day, they serve up a quick bite of wacky math just for fun. It’s nothing like school. Parents can sign up by email, website, and on their free app. Whether it’s flamingos, ninjas or pillow forts, kids can see the math in their favorite topics. No logins. No drilling. No scores. It takes only 5 minutes a day, and kids clamor for it.
 
DREME
Grades Prek - 2.  Math PDF.
Stanford Univesity created this PDF to support families with at-home learning during this challenging time, they’re offering a quick start kit of free early math resources. The resources are geared toward children from birth to age 8, but children of all ages will delight in the learning.  Available in both English and Spanish!
